Sept - Dec 2019

The year is 2019. All three Potter children and their Weasley cousins are now Hogwarts students but aside from following their adventures, the RPG's plot also incorporates characters from crossover worlds such as Little Women, The Virgin Suicides, Chuck, Pushing Daisies, Dexter, True Blood, Weeds, Skins, 10 Things and many more. Prior knowledge of the crossover books and shows is unnecessary, as they are explained in our Crossover Characters Guide. Crossover characters can simply be treated like Original Characters by roleplayers who are unfamiliar with their personalities. All members need is a love for the Harry Potter universe, intermediate to advanced writing skills, a good attitude, and a willingness to integrate themselves into the RPG's tight-knit, friendly community.

Sister sites are other RPGs that Hogwarts Mish Mash is proud to support because of the high quality of writing, plots, roleplaying atmosphere, staff dedication and other warm fuzzies that make RP-ing worthwhile. We don't plan on collecting hundreds of sisters that we don't have a real relationship with (those are affiliates), but if you'd like to have a couple of admins from another RPG to discuss site issues, seek support from, or throw around ideas with occasionally, and you think your website is a vessel of delicious writing and epic plotteration, drop us an email and we can discuss becoming sisters.

On every Character Profile on this site, the RP-er is required to list their character's wand.

There are many wand shops and wand-makers located all over the world, each specializing in a variety of different wand cores. Where is your character's wand from, you might ask? Locate the wand shop nearest to your character's residence, or simply the shop your character is most likely to have bought his/her wand from, and then begin to assemble his/her wand from the list of cores and woods below!

Woods
Most shops around the world would stock all the woods listed below (unless specified) as they are easily imported even if these wand trees are not native to the country.

Shops & Wand Cores

Below are some of the most famous wand shops around Europe, and the wand cores available at these shops. Descriptions of wand cores are also given, making it easier to choose a core that suits your character's personality. Only wand shops where Hogwarts students might possibly have shopped at have been listed. Please note that unless you have the odd character that doesn't live in the United Kingdom, your character's wand should come from wand shops in England, Scotland and Ireland. The only exception to this rule are ADULT characters who come from very rich families, in which case they might possibly have bought their wands from Gregorovich before his death.

However, in general, try to choose a wand shop that is closest to your character's residence unless you have special reasons for not doing so.

Ollivander's
Location: England (Diagon Alley)
Ollivander re-opened his shop at Diagon Alley in January 2000 - one and a half years after Voldemort's final defeat. Characters who needed a wand between 1996-2000 would have been unable to purchase a wand from Ollivander's. Draco Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa Malfoy have been banned from this shop, due to their Manor having served as Ollivander's prison for a year. All former Death Eaters are also banned, though if their children enter the shop with their non-Death Eater spouses, the old man might consent to selling the young ones wands.

Phoenix Feather
A very magical wand core. The Phoenix Feather strengthens the intention of the bearer, therefore this core proves powerful in both the hands of the pure and wicked of heart.

Dragon Heartstring
Hexes are a specialty of this core. While it is dangerous in the hands of mischief-makers, Dragon Heartstring is a brilliant core for dealing with unpredictable spells. This core responds best to those with a strong, sturdy and unfaltering heart.

Unicorn Hair
Best for the pure of heart. This core proves adept at defensive spells and counter-curses. In the hands of one with cloudy intentions, this core tends to act temperamentally. Not a good core for the Dark Arts.

Trove Of Tartarus
Location: England (Knockturn Alley)
Only wizards and witches from families with Dark Wizarding lineage, those dabbling in the Dark Arts themselves and sketchy characters would shop here.

Acromantula Fang
This ruthless wand core has a blood-thirsty nature and is best used in the Dark Arts. When used non-offensively for great periods of time, the Acromantula Fang begins to behave temperamentally.

Snidget Feather
This rare and highly illegal wand core is an excellent core for Charm work. It aids the bearer in casting spells at almost lightning speed. However, as the Snidget is almost extinct, such cores are banned in England and can only be found on the black market.

Vampire Fang
A good core for Dark Magic and hexes. While it works best at night, it is also adept at Transfiguration work in the day time. A Vampire Fang functions at its peak between the hours of sunset and sunrise. It should be noted that vampires do not take kindly to wizards who own wands with these cores, as the fangs were usually removed from their kind through violence or murder.

Sphinx Claw
A difficult wand core in the hands of most wizards, the Sphinx Claw responds only to those with extremely high intelligence. In the hands of a witch or wizard with sufficient mental capabilities, the Sphinx Claw handles a wide variety of charms, curses and hexes efficiently.

Thestral Hair
An excellent core that works well for both curses and counter-curses. This core does not differentiate between the good or wicked intentions of the bearer, and therefore works equally well for regular spells and the Dark Arts.

Goblin Hair
Goblin Hair cores aid the wand bearer best in spells relating to thieving, money and mischief. It is also a good core for Transfiguration and minor hexes.

Earl Of Fife
Location: Hogsmeade, Scotland

Phoenix Feather
A very magical wand core. The Phoenix Feather strengthens the intention of the bearer, therefore this core proves powerful in both the hands of the pure and wicked of heart.

Dragon Whisker
Properties are similar to those of Dragon Heartstring. However, Dragon Whisker cores are slightly more whimsical and take themselves less seriously. Good for both hexes and defensive spells, this core works best in the hands of a strong-hearted witch or wizard with a touch of humour. Dragon Whisker cores also tend to cast very strong protective spells and animation charms.

Sphinx Claw
A difficult wand core in the hands of most wizards, the Sphinx Claw responds only to those with extremely high intelligence. In the hands of a witch or wizard with sufficient mental capabilities, the Sphinx Claw handles a wide variety of charms, curses and hexes efficiently.

Pixie Wing
Slightly temperamental in nature, Pixie Wings are sought after by inventors or those who enjoy experimental spells. They possess an innovative quality and respond well to the creative and sharp of wit. These cores make many spells by the bearer interesting to say the least, often adding extra effects that may not have been anticipated. While it might cause occasional havoc, it is usually in benefit of its owner.

Griffin Feather
Griffin Feathers aid bravery and work well against Dark Magic. They are often sought after by brave souls who enjoy danger and adventure. Good for counter-curses, defensive and offensive spells.

Demiguise Hair
Only the best for Transfiguration. This core functions well in the hands of those peace-loving and humble and does not do well in hexes and curses. However, counter charms and defensive spells are right up its alley.

Far Darrig's
Location: Ireland

Augurey Feather
Augurey feathers make sturdy and reliable cores, functioning well even in the most dire of circumstances. Good for Transfiguration and conjuring spells.

Banshee Hair
An unreliable core to all except those vengeful of nature and with wicked intentions. Partial to females, this core works well for witches but will cause spells to backfire on the user if born by a wizard.

Dragon Heartstring
Hexes are a specialty of this core. While it is dangerous in the hands of mischief-makers, Dragon Heartstring is a brilliant core for dealing with unpredictable spells. This core responds best to those with a strong, sturdy and unfaltering heart.

Leprechaun Hair
Somewhat temperamental to Non-Irish, but great fun in the hands of Irish lads and lassies. Best for those merry of heart and patriotic in nature. A nice core for Charm work.

Fwooper Feather
Fwooper cores are most useful in spells that affect the mental frequencies of the caster's victim. This core is also good for Charm work and is a good core for those of relatively high intelligence.

Quintaped Hair
Best for the strong in spirit or those in search of strength and bravery. While initially difficult to control, once the bearer familiarises his or herself with this core, Quintaped Hair makes a potent wand centre.

Hippocampus Scale
An excellent core for household spells and cleaning charms. No core intensifies the charm "Scourgify" as much as the Hippocampus Scale does.

Vlad Tepes Scipio
Location: Transylvania
Most wizards and witches from Eastern Europe shop here.

Ashwinder Ash
Casts the best protection charms. This core is best used in self-defence and functions at its best when the wand senses the bearer's panicky instincts.

Manticore Stinger
Works best for offensive spells. Manticore stingers become potent when the bearer's intention is to harm. However, if damaged, it will cause deadly harm on the bearer instead. Manticore stingers work best in the hands of male wizards.

Runespoor Fang
Best for those who deal with Dark Magic. Runespoor Fang is potent in the usage of dark spells, but may prove temperamental when used by the pure of heart.

Phoenix Feather
A very magical wand core. The Phoenix Feather strengthens the intention of the bearer, therefore this core proves powerful in both the hands of the pure and wicked of heart.

Thestral Hair
An excellent core that works well for both curses and counter-curses. This core does not differentiate between the good or wicked intentions of the bearer, and therefore works equally well for regular spells and the Dark Arts.

Gytrash Fur
A sturdy and reliable wand core. Gytrash fur is hardy and will continue to function even when the wand is damaged. A good core for physically active witches and wizards.

Baguette Magique Dubois
Location: France
This shop was owned by Madame Desirée Dubois-La Verne, Fleur Delacour's maternal Grandmother who has since passed on. Her cousin, Christelle Dubois, took over the shop seven years ago.

Hair from the Mane of a Kelpie
Superb for all spells and extremely easy to use. However, as the hair disintegrates after five years, the bearer will have to change wands rather often.

Demiguise Hair
Only the best for Transfiguration. This core functions well in the hands of those peace-loving and humble and does not do well in hexes and curses. However, counter charms and defensive spells are right up its alley.

Fwooper Feather
Fwooper cores are most useful in spells that affect the mental frequencies of the caster's victim. This core is also good for Charm work and is a good core for those of relatively high intelligence.

Unicorn Hair
Best for the pure of heart. This core proves adept at defensive spells and counter-curses. In the hands of one with cloudy intentions, this core tends to act temperamentally. Not a good core for the Dark Arts.

Phoenix Feather
A very magical wand core. The Phoenix Feather strengthens the intention of the bearer, therefore this core proves powerful in both the hands of the pure and wicked of heart.

Hippogriff Talon
While this core sounds most impressive, it does not have very powerful magical properties except in the field of Charm work. However, it is a sturdy core for simple practical spells.

Gregorovich
Location: Switzerland
*Besides the special cores mentioned below, Gregorovich also sold ALL the cores mentioned in every other shop, as custom wands are made here. He specialized in custom wands tailored specially for each individual customer to ensure 100 percent compatability. This was also the most expensive wand shop in the world, with wealthy wizards apparating and floo-ing in from all corners of the globe just to have their wands made. Only the extremely wealthy could afford to shop here. However, due to the war with Voldemort and the death of Gregorovich, ALL WANDS PURCHASED HERE MUST HAVE BEEN PURCHASED PRIOR TO 1998. This means that only wealthy ADULT witches and wizards who survived the war and are likely to have bought a wand from a foreign wandmaker might own a Gregorovich wand.

Chimaera Scale
Very rare, yet very powerful, this wand core can only be afforded by the rich and very wealthy. Superb in almost all kinds of spells, a Chimaera Scale takes one or two months for a wand bearer to fully control, after which the possibilities are endless.

Veela Hair
A temperamental wand core to all except Veelas and their kin. Veela hair is excellent for Transfiguration, Charm work, Curses and Hexes. However, when used by a non-Veela, this core may occasionally cause spells to backfire on the user. For this reason, Veela Hair is rarely used.

Salamander Scale
This fiery core is prone to violent tendencies at times, and is best used in the wand of one who casts a great many offensive spells. It is a powerful core for hexes and curses.

Occamy Scale
A rare core, Occamy Scale wands are good for beautifying spells and Charm work. They work best for those light of heart and free of ill intentions.
